Vegan Pizza + Drag Queens: The Recipe for Calgary's Best Night Out

Warm, intimate interior of The Attic Bar & Stage in Calgary's Inglewood neighbourhood

There are dinner plans, and then there are dinner plans that involve vegan pizza, drag queens, cocktails, live music, and potentially a standing ovation for your pasta.

Welcome upstairs.

Tucked above Vegan Street in historic Inglewood, The Attic Bar & Stage is Calgary’s intimate plant-based dining and entertainment destination. It is where hand-stretched pizza meets live performance, where fresh pasta shares the spotlight with fabulous drag, and where “just one drink” becomes “should we get dessert?” with suspicious speed.

Whether you are fully vegan, vegan-curious, or simply loyal to excellent food and a good night out, The Attic is your sign to make plans that have a little more sparkle. ✨

Come Hungry. Leave Glittery.

The Attic’s menu is completely plant-based, but the experience is anything but restrictive. The kitchen serves stone-baked vegan pizza, fresh vegan pasta, scratch-made sauces, and thoughtfully crafted cocktails designed for a proper night on the town.

The dough is made by hand. The pasta is made fresh with local semolina flour (high in minerals and protein). The sauces are made from scratch. In other words, this is not a sad little side salad quietly waiting for the main event. This is dinner with ambitions.

Start with something to share, then make the difficult-but-delicious decision between pizza and pasta. Or do what we recommend: order both and share- queue Lady and the Tramp flashbacks;)

The menu features inventive combinations that make the most of plant-based ingredients without trying to disguise them. Think rich sauces, roasted vegetables, creamy housemade elements, bold herbs, crisp toppings, and plenty of texture. If you are visiting while the seasonal feature is available, you may even catch something like the Peach Pesto Pizza, topped with pumpkin seed pesto, fresh BC peaches, nozzarella, candied walnuts, balsamic glaze, and cashew goat cheeze.

Sweet, savoury, tangy, creamy, crunchy. It is a whole personality on a pizza.

Explore The Attic’s food and drink menus before your visit: seasonal features and show-night offerings can change.

Dinner First. Drama Second. Or Both at Once.

The best kind of night out has a rhythm:

Arrive early. Eat something fabulous. Order a cocktail. Watch the room come alive.

The Attic’s daily happy hour runs from 5–7 p.m., making it an ideal starting point for an evening in Inglewood. Enjoy select drinks and appetizer deals while settling into the venue’s warm, moody atmosphere: think velvet seating, glowing lights, vintage charm, and just enough theatricality to make ordering pizza feel like an occasion.

Then the stage takes over.

The Attic is home to Carly’s Angels, Calgary’s longest-running drag show, with performances on Saturdays that bring big personalities, dazzling looks, sharp comedy, and plenty of audience energy. It is the kind of night where your table becomes a cheering section, your cocktail becomes a prop, and everyone leaves knowing at least one new catchphrase.

Drag is only part of the lineup. The Attic also hosts:

  • Burlesque audiences can get excited about, with expressive, playful, and unapologetically glamorous performances.
  • Live music fans will appreciate, from intimate listening-room moments to soulful and lively performances.
  • Comedy nights featuring queer- and femme-curated stand-up comedy.
  • Special events, themed shows, jazz, variety performances, and plenty of reasons to return.

Check the current events calendar for show dates, tickets, start times, and lineup details. Performances can sell out, especially when the evening involves Carly’s Angels, so booking ahead is a very good idea. Future-you will be grateful. Future-you loves a reserved table.

Why The Attic Feels Different

The Attic is not a chain restaurant with a stage squeezed into the corner. It is a fiercely independent, community-focused venue built around the idea that good food and good art belong in the same room.

The space has a long connection to Inglewood’s live-performance and queer-art scene. Today, it continues that legacy by giving local performers a welcoming place to create, experiment, entertain, and occasionally bring an audience to tears of happiness.

That is the magic of a small venue. You are close to the stage. You can feel the room respond. You are not watching the show from somewhere three neighbourhoods away through binoculars. You are part of the atmosphere.

And because The Attic is created by the team behind Vegan Street, every meal supports a bigger mission: compassionate dining, sustainability, local collaboration, and a more vibrant Calgary community.

Eat plants. Support artists. Have a great time. Repeat.

A Night-Out Guide for First-Time Visitors

Wondering how to plan your perfect Attic evening? Here is a simple formula.

1. Check the show details

Event times, lineups, ticketing, and age requirements may vary. Visit the events page before heading out, and arrive with enough time to enjoy dinner without missing the opening act. Shows sell out, and tickets are the ONLY way to guarantee your seat for the night.

2. Make a reservation (for dinner only)

Table reservations are necessary only for those who do not wish to join us for the show, or for those who wish to arrive much sooner than 1 hour prior to showtime. The Attic is intimate, which is wonderful for atmosphere and less wonderful for spontaneous groups of twelve who have not made a plan since 2019.

3. Arrive for happy hour

Give yourself time to settle in with a cocktail, wine, local beer, or mocktail. Daily happy hour from 5–7 p.m. is a great way to start the evening without rushing straight from “hello” to “the show is beginning.”

4. Order for the table

Share an appetizer, choose a vegan pizza, and add fresh pasta for the table. The best nights involve passing plates, stealing the crispiest bite, and insisting that everyone try “just one more piece.”

5. Keep room for dessert

The Attic’s plant-based desserts have earned serious praise. One glowing customer review called the vegan carrot cake “the best I’ve ever tasted,” while also praising the food, décor, and consistently lovely vibe.

What Guests Are Saying

The food may bring you through the door, but the warmth keeps people coming back.

One guest described The Attic as:

“An absolute dream for vegan pizza and pasta lovers!”

They went on to praise the pumpkin sage gnocchi, vegan carrot cake, original décor, and “lovely vibe.”

That combination comes up again and again: food that feels carefully made, service that feels genuinely welcoming, and a room that gives you something to talk about long after the final number.

Downstairs at Vegan Street, guests have shared similarly enthusiastic reviews, calling the service “exceptional” and the staff “personable and warm.” Another customer said they brought several meat-eating friends, and everyone loved it.

That is exactly the point.

You do not need to arrive with a vegan identity card. You only need to enjoy a great meal, a memorable performance, and a room where everybody is encouraged to be themselves.
